The Book of Simone
1:1 A tide of cats flows from the site of the crucifixion A swarm of cats, running through the narrow stone streets, an unending tide of them, howling and the stench of fear and urine and blood. Looking past them to see what they are running from its as if your vision is pulled on a ray of golden light to the hill. Golgotha. Jesus is there, hanging from His cross, and He appears to be already dead. 1:2 Monsters taunt Jesus Cats pour from a hole in the ground near the three crosses and swarm past, leaving the sharp pain of their scratches on bare feet. There are unholy things at the base of the cross looking up at the three men hanging there. "You have failed, Nazarene," says one of the monsters. And it opens its mouth to catch drops of His blood on its tongue. 1:3 Jesus awakens Jesus' blood spills from the wound at His side, flowing forth like a river down His legs and collecting at His knee. A bead of His blood, large and red as the apple from the tree forbidden to Adam and Eve, forms and drops slowly. All the sound seemed to have left the world as it fell into the waiting mouth of the monster where it begain to sizzle and smoke and the monster began to scream. The skies opened up with all the fury of God as lightning and thunder came from the Heavens. Jesus awoke, his eyes opening to gaze down upon the monster. He spoke to it and said, "I am not finished."
