Jackson de Greyse dreams about his dead sister, Georgine. She tells him that their father's crazy ideas about monsters are all true. She needs him to take up the crusade to clense the world of these demons so that she can enter Heaven. He wakes with her ring in his hand.
Matthew Lichterman discovers the site of Cassidy Monroe's car accident in which Erica Marshall was killed. He discovers his abilities to create a zone of supernatural-free space and to heal the injured. Erica's ghost led him to the crash site and now haunts his Mustang GT.
Ursula White's family is attacked by a zombie policeman. She learns of her power to hold a monster with her gaze and to understand its true nature. She and her father help the officer stay dead. That night they are visited by Agent Daniel Tipulsky of the FBI for questioning about the incident.
Rachel O'Reilly promised God she would help Him if He brought her friend Becky Fucci back from a coma. In church a Voice tells her that she is to help in the fight against the unnatural. She learns of her ability to hide from monsters in plain sight when a Troll enters looking for something, and her power to show the unnatural to others when the Voice tells her to expose the monster. Father Gray gives her a bible that starts with Revelations and has additional little-known sections, unfortunately it's in Latin and Greek.
Simone Wolcott deals with a walking dead thing while playing tennis with her sister Darlene. She discovers her powers to avert harm with a shouted word and to crush monsters emotionally by simply talking to them as if they were human. Her family blows off the whole incident and seems to forget about it, but she can't. Famous director Michael Borneo saw it all, though he didn't quite admit it, and leaves Simone with his business card.
Brandon "B-Tween" Windthorp's friend Tanisha Simon is fed upon and killed by a vampire. B knows this because a newly discovered power allows him a psychic flash of Phillip Houser's true monstrosity, showing his feeding on the girl. When B-tween punches him, he then learns of his other ability to sacrifice damage to himself to increase his damage to those he's fighting. It beat's the shit out of his hand and arm, but Phillip Houser won't be on Gibson-Rosewood's football team ever again.
Jennifer Greenwood sees and understands Hunter Code for "monsters" in the airport on her way to Gibson-Rosewood. On the plane, she learns of her ability to see potential futures and how choices lead to them. Some sort of monster destroys the flight crew and Jennifer also learns that she can figure out what monsters' weaknesses are. She kills the monster and voices help her to land the plane. FBI agent Tipulsky helps her avoid the media and other authorities and escape from the incident with anonymity.

Jackson meets his roommate, Sparrow, a mousey little thing who worships him. Everyone worships Jackson. His girlfriend Jenny stops by to ask Jackson to the Sadie Hawkins dance. While they are out for ice cream, Jackson notices Nathaniel Sylow-Black in his camo gear. Vanessa Hargrove approaches and asks Jackson to the dance, when she touches him, she activates one of Jackson's hunter powers to leave a trail behind her. Jackson and Nate discover that she died 8 years ago and may be reenacting her death situation, which puts Jenny in immediate danger. Nate and Jackson follow her to the tunnels below Englewood.
Ursula meets Rainbow Evans, fun-loving fat hippy-chick. Ursula's mother tries to get her to go to the school shrink. When the two girls get stoned, they find themselves surrounded by scores of interested faeries. Ursula traps them by closing the wardrobe door and breaking the gate to Arcadia, and eventually lets the fae loose out the window.
Matt doesn't actually meet David Fennel, but experiences the trauma of the housing office pairing a football player with a theater freak. Doesn't look like they will get along at all. He learns that fellow football players Phillip Houser, Bill Planck, Winston Lovelace, and Brian Polk all live on his hall, but that no one has heard from Houser. After some bizzarre rearranging of furniture, Matt decides to sleep in Planck's room where something seems to be watching them through the mirror. Erica's ghost calls for help through the mirror as well.
Simone learns that her roommate-to-be, Erica Marshall, is dead and they want to make her go to the shrink because of it. The housing office promises a new roommate. Unsettled by her room, she looks outside and follows Jackson into Englewood. With her recent experience with the living dead, she won't follow into the dark of the tunnels without some sort of light, so she puts off following to find a torch.
Rachel learns from her Bible addendum that Jesus spent the 11 years missing in the common Bible travelling around and hunting supernatural creatures. She meets her roommate, Amy Maguire, a Miss Thang cheerleader type with 5 cats illegally hidden in the room.
B-tween was looking forward to the seniors coed dorm, but Englewood won't be a fly with a nerd like Trevelyan Thurgood, mathlete, slob, and social inept as a roommate. As B is bringing in his bags, Simone Wolcott runs into him in her search for a flashlight.
Jennifer encounters the socially unrefined Tanisha Simon as her roommate. The black girl comes off as 110% attitude and claims their Willis East dorm as her personal territory where Jennifer is treated as an unwanted guest. She has a vision of Jackson and Simone feeding a corpse to a demon in the fires of the Art Center's kilns, which she ignores.
Simone and Btween watch as Jackson battles with the corpse of Vanessa Hargrove. When the zombie is destroyed, Simone helps carry the bits to the art department to be burned and B storms off in disgust.
Everyone feels some earthquake or explosion happen somewhere on campus, but nothing seems to be out of place. Then dreams of tribal monster-men who drip insects haunt everyone just before the fire alarm goes off announcing that Matt Lichtermann and David Fennel's room is ablaze. Rachel uses her power to expose the monster in the room. Cassidy, who had been talking to Simone, runs off when Rachel starts glowing. The group sees that there is something in Matt's room and sneaks through the tunnels to find the poltergeist of Richard Sundberg - once burned alive by warlocks who felt he knew too much - and the ghosts of two boys who killed themselves in this room after going crazy from the psychic remnants of Richard's trauma. One of the ghosts explains that children of the dark mother called to someone, but he didn't understand why she was so important. After a horific battle, culminating with Ursula holding the poltergeist while Jackson beats it, Jennifer discovers Richard's watch - the item he is still
bound to, and takes it outside. Matt destroys it and the poltergeist leaves with an explosion and the ghosts are freed to move on to afterlife.
Simone has a vision of Jesus's crucifixion - a tidal wave of cats flowing down from Golgotha, and monsters taunting Jesus and waiting to drink his blood.
Jackson finds Nate naked in his bed, having been off fighting other monsters while the rest dealt with the poltergeist and fire. Nate claims that he was tired and Jackson's room was closer. Jackson meets Sparrow at the health center and also finds B there. The unlikely pair ride together in Jackson's car to the county hospital where B's hand is x-rayed and a cast is put on his fractured wrist. Leaving the hospital, the boys see the Hunter sign for "corruption."
Jennifer runs into Agent Tipulsky again and is interrogated about the fire. Some of the others are on a list of Tipulsky's. She evades his questions for the most part, but is worried that he was able to learn so much so quickly.
Ursula goes back to her room to the unhappy but somewhat expected news that the faerie situation has not entirely resolved itself. The faeries are insistant and bring her back with them into Arcadia against her will.
Matt calls his parents. After talking to them, he gets in his car with the ghost of Erica Marshall and they drive away from the FBI agent.
Simone dreams of the red-and-black painted monster men again. Getting up to find something in the vending machine to take her mind off things, she notices Jennifer being interrogated by Agent Tipulski. She brushes against another of Amy's cats and gets another flash installment of the crucifixion of Jesus story.
Rachel convinces Amy that they can look for her lost cats in the morning.
B returns to his room and gets a surprise romantic visit from Tanisha Simon.
Rachel goes off to her grandmother's house. Later her grandmother's body is found in a scene of gore as if attacked by wild animals. Rachel's body is not identifiable in the gore.
At the memorial services for Erica, Nate asks Jackson to recruit the others into the marksmanship club. Simone listens to football jocks disrespectfully talk through the service, telling that Matt went off last night in his car and no one has heard from him since. Jennifer complains to B about her roommate and he tries to hit on her in response.
Jackson spends the next week trying to get the others to join the marksmanship club. The nightmares continue, and Jennifer Greenwood's visions get worse. Jennifer takes up yoga to help her deal with the stress of the visions. Simone gets a new roommate, Clarise Lin, who knows about the visions Simone has had.
B finds Trey has had his soul sucked into his computer by a demon.
The Sadie Hawkins dance goes off without a hitch because Vanessa wasn't there to cause problems. After the Sadie Hawkins Dance, Jackson walked Jenny Trupp back to her room, and now rumors have spread that they spent the night together. Jackson denies this at his True Love Waits meeting, and storms out. Nate offers to talk to Jenny for him. Jackson finds Sparrow covered with butterflies that Romi Foltz, Karen Richardson, and Jennifer Talbot summoned into his room in response to Jackson's "I'd sooner sleep with my roommate" comment. Jackson sets a fire in Warren Springer's room to wash the butterflies away without lettingt he dust from their wings kill Sparrow. Dean Michaels refuses to accept Jackson's confession, and takes Warren away.
